The PR MileDarien

The PR Mile race is just what the name says, a ONE MILE, chip timed race with quarter mile splits on a unique, slowly descending, USATF certified course(IL15013WR) that provides you the opportunity to run your fastest, PERSONALRECORD MILE!

Let's not kid ourselves, it is really all about the mile. Whether your preferred distance is a 5K or a marathon and if you are a 15 minute 5K elite or a 5 hour marathoner, you all really want to know how fast you can run a single mile. Most of us have probably run mile repeats on the track for training. This is totally different-not even close. We are offering you the rare opportunity to run 1 mile-all out...as fast as your legs and lungs will allow while competing with your peers in our unique wave format.    Don't be intimidated, this race is for all runners(no walkers, though).

Here is how we designed the race:

We will be running 10 separate 10 year age group (except for the under age 20 runners) waves every 10 minutes. However, if you are an elite (or just think you are), you can sign up for our "elite" waves-male and female. In short, every 10 minutes, beginning with age 70+ men and women, the clock will be reset and the gun will go off.  Each of the 10 waves is a race unto itself, including different bib colors.

Eventually, we will work our way down to the Kid's Dash 14 and under age group and then culminating with the final two races of the evening, the elite waves! After the racing is over it will be time to celebrate everyone's PR performances with a live band and a Beer and BBQ Bash hosted by Urban Legend BrewingCompany and the best BBQ restaurant in the Midwest, Chuck's Southern Comfort!  For non-runners, food and beverage can be purchased on site for $10.00

SOOOOOOO...

MARK your calendars for June 20th and work back 12 weeks to start your 1 mile training (March 29th for those too lazy to look at your calendar and do the math).

-

GET SET!  Make sure you show up on time (CST).  The course on Cass Avenue will be closed at 5:00 sharp.  The first wave will have a 6:20 gun time.  Remember, this race is run in multiple waves. If you are in a later wave (younger and faster), come early and cheer on the runners in early waves. They need support as much as you do. If you are in an early wave (older and smarter), you will want to stay to cheer on the other runners and, of course, party hardy!

-

When the gun goes off, it is GO time! Time to run hard, run smart and run fast. Splits provided every quarter mile will help you pace to you PR mile time. NO EXCUSES. Strategy is as important in our 1 MILE race as it is in a marathon. GOout too fast and your gonna pay. GO out too slow and it will be too late to make up lost time. Do you try to be a testosterone fueled, showboating front runner like legendary Steve Prefontaine (my hero) or do you wisely hang back a bit and kick it hard in the last quarter? Train smart and learn what strategy works best for you.

-

BTW, there will be water available at the 1/2 mile mark for rehydration-just don't let anybody see you partake.

Chuck’s BBQ is incredible!!!  Chuck was so kind and generous to host our post race bash.  He is a BBQ guru, smoked meat aficionado and one helluva nice guy.  BBQ is his life and passion.  After tasting his food from our post race bash, you will agree that we have not exaggerated or embellished in the least.  The post race bash alone is worth our ridiculously low entry fee.  If you don’t agree, your just weird!
